$ 105,113
Upgrading the platform to the full version (TV apps)

General information

Four or five tech oligarchs decide what you see, what you read and what reaches you every day. None of them is accountable to the people who use their platforms to stay informed or to work.

Elon Musk bought Twitter and turned it into a megaphone for the far right. Jeff Bezos, who controls Amazon, Twitch and The Washington Post, blocked the publication of an editorial critical of Donald Trump. Mark Zuckerberg limited the amount of news shown to users, sinking the reach of thousands of independent media outlets. HBO has wiped entire documentaries from its catalog to pay less in taxes.

And we haven’t forgotten about traditional media power.
Three private groups account for nearly 60% of the audience and 90% of TV advertising in Spain, with investment funds and foreign fortunes sitting on their boards, while public television is still carved up by party quotas.

That’s why dozens of creators, filmmakers, journalists and educators from Spain and Latin America are joining forces to launch, at the same time, the first cooperative streaming platform in Spanish, with its creators and filmmakers as co-op members, and a TV channel owned by its workers, with no investment funds or outside owners.

With this campaign, we are formally becoming a worker cooperative. We, the worker members and the creator and filmmaker members, own the project. We are not content suppliers for a third party.

Furor TV, with more than a decade of experience, provides the infrastructure, development and maintenance of the platform, as well as the technical team and the studio. The network is completed by creators and filmmakers, who join as full members.

We’ll also keep showing up in other spaces, going where people are and where the cultural battle is being fought.
But we don’t want to be just one more channel working in the master’s house. While we fight this battle, we want to build a house of our own.

Main features and goals of the crowdfunding campaign

This project turns a network of creators, journalists and filmmakers into the first cooperative TV channel and streaming platform in Spanish, owned exclusively by its workers and by the content creators and filmmakers who contribute their audiovisual work.
Furor TV brings the know-how and technical development, the infrastructure and the starting point; the network is completed by the creators and filmmakers who join the project as co-op members.

What sets us apart:

  1. Cooperative model: we, the worker members and the creator and filmmaker members, will be the sole owners of the ecosystem, with a voice and a vote in how it’s governed.
  2. Editorial independence: we are not neutral and we are committed to social causes, but we are non-partisan.
  3. Internal plurality: we will create a space open to diversity and a plurality of ideas, bringing together different progressive perspectives.
  4. A dual purpose: we will launch our own TV channel and a streaming platform, open to other creators and filmmakers as members with rights, not just as content suppliers.

Goals:

  1. Launch, at the same time, the first cooperative streaming platform in Spanish and a collectively owned daily TV channel.
  2. Put the project at the service of the working class and its struggles, as an alternative to the atomized, individualized and aspirational creator model that dominates today’s content creation economy.
  3. Formally establish ourselves as a worker cooperative with ownership rights for technical workers, creators and filmmakers.
    4. Pay fair member advances to the technical and audiovisual team, with fair working hours.
  4. Produce a daily schedule that brings together political talk shows, educational content, entertainment streaming and social critique, offering both free and subscription-based content.

But we’re not doing this alone.
For months, we’ve been mentored by a leading example: Means TV, the world’s first streaming service owned solely by its workers, creators and filmmakers, with no private capital or corporations behind it. With your support, we’ll follow in their footsteps, but in Spanish and with a daily schedule of our own productions alongside the creators’ catalog. It will be the first cooperative of its kind designed from day one for the entire Spanish-speaking world.

  • We’ll offer both free and subscription-based content.
Your subscription gives you early access to shows before anyone else, exclusive content you won’t find anywhere else,
a catalog of social cinema with no ads interrupting you, and the peace of mind of knowing your money supports the people who make it, not a big corporation. Meanwhile, part of our programming will remain free. That’s our collective return: part of the schedule will always be free for everyone, whether or not they support the project financially.

* With the first goal, we’ll launch the lite version of the platform (web and mobile apps), with a catalog from day one, and the TV channel with a growing schedule.
But the further we go, the sooner the full version arrives, with apps on the App Store, Android, Smart TVs and other devices, and a finish that rivals Netflix or HBO. Together with dozens of creators, we’ll also launch a stable daily schedule, with a current affairs talk show, an internal live-streaming hub and a wide range of original formats (both free and subscription-based).

We’ll have our own YouTube, our own Twitch and our own HBO, but also our own collective network, our own mutual support and our own cooperative philosophy.

romperalgoritmo1x-3.png

Why this is important

It’s not enough to say we’re a collective project where no one exploits anyone else’s labor: we have to build a structure that guarantees it.
And it doesn’t end with a subscription: we’ll keep opening up ways to take part collectively, so that those of you who support this project can also become an active part of it.

The launch starts in Spain, but the move into Latin America is already underway: we’re bringing on creators and filmmakers from across the continent to expand the project’s design together.

We see journalism, filmmaking, educational content and audiovisual creation on social media as work that should come with rights, and collective organizing as the best tool to defend them. Instead of the atomized creator negotiating alone, in silence, with a platform that answers to no one, we stand for a commitment to the working class as the backbone of the project.

We’ve studied the models that work, designed the project’s architecture and built the team. We have the technical know-how and the plan; what we need now is the fuel.

If economic power isn’t on our side, we need ordinary people. And not just individuals: we’re also calling on unions, cooperatives, foundations and social economy organizations to join this project, with their own space to share what they do in a media outlet that shares their values.

You decide how far and how ambitiously we launch. We go live in the first quarter of 2027, and how far we get is in your hands.

Team and experience

This network isn’t starting from scratch. Furor TV, its founding core, has spent more than a decade paving the way. It was born in 2014 as a YouTube channel started by a group of journalism, political science and film and media students, who at first recorded on a set made of two wooden boards. In 2020, it took the next step, with its own premises in Madrid and a professional multi-camera set, becoming the first Twitch-native online TV network in Spain.

In 2022, the team co-founded a TV channel, and that experience showed that the legal model of a media and audiovisual initiative (who owns it, who has a voice and a vote, how profits are shared) matters as much as, or even more than, its content.

On top of that foundation comes the film side. The documentary Unblock Cuba, shot in Cuba, Russia and Spain, has earned 26 nominations and 6 international awards, along with a theatrical release. That same experience (producing films, taking them to festivals and finding them an audience) is what we now bring to building a catalog of social cinema that today has almost nowhere to live.

With Means TV, that mentorship has grown into a sister partnership. Its founding team is the same one that produced Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s viral 2018 campaign video, before launching the world’s first streaming service owned by its workers and creators. We will now develop the platform’s infrastructure together, and we’re exploring co-producing content for the US, Spain and Latin America, in an international alliance between two sister cooperatives that brings together both sides of the Spanish-speaking Atlantic.

Joining this project is a network of dozens of creators, journalists, educators and filmmakers from Spain and Latin America, along with audiovisual professionals and Furor TV’s technical and production team.

(...)

We’re already a team, but this is only the beginning. With some, we’ve been working side by side for a while; with others, there’s still a lot to build. But as you read this, we’re still finalizing formats and pinning down the exact level of involvement and publishing schedule. We all have energy to spare, but we need the fuel. The ambition of this crowdfunding campaign will determine how far we go together.

And the list keeps growing: we’re in ongoing conversations with dozens of creators and filmmakers, and we meet every day to bring more talent on board. Throughout the campaign, we’ll keep updating the list, defining formats and announcing films, creators and content.

**Our common home is filling up before the doors even open.

Dare to join us.**
