Automaton and tools

24 | 02 | 2020

While waiting to reach that optimum goal that will let us translate our contents to English, we are working on the automaton of the covers, spliting the content from the view in order to configure specific printing details automatically.

For those that have interest, we are working on Guile using SXML. That process creates an Inkscape SVG file (inkscape's SVGs have some extra points that standard SVGs don't support like multiline text areas) that later can be converted to the final PDF with Inkscape itself.

This process, which looks quite weird (I'm aware of that), describes the process we follow to create the documents really well. We start with plain text files that contain only the content of the books and then they are converted to the different output formats. This way the same content can take several outputs. This process simplifies our job in the document edition, translation and publishing.

Technology exists to make our life easier. Being able to use it increases our reach.

The image below shows my computer's screen. The red section is just a visual help during the development, we don't plan to release the books with a red spine unless you are really interested on it and you convince us to do so.
