General information

“Caution, Children at Play” was born from a trip its directors took in 2018, during which they volunteered at the Aida refugee camp in Bethlehem, Palestine. There, they met and shared experiences with the local community, learning about their stories, daily lives, and needs.
The documentary aims, on one hand, to present the key concepts underlying the historical conflict between Israel and Palestine, offering context and perspective for viewers who may not be familiar with the situation. On the other hand, and more centrally, the film focuses on getting to know the people who live there — those who resist, dream, fear, work, create art, care for their streets, and love.
The stories of those living inside Palestine, enclosed by a wall, are full of nuance. To walk its streets is to meet its people and their families. Every person in Palestine shares one reality: they are affected by the conflict. From the elderly who have witnessed it since the beginning, to the youth who have never stopped fighting, and the children born amidst bombings, harassment, rubble, and resistance — all have lived or are still living through it. The documentary’s visual language will seek to capture and convey this reality to the viewer.
More than just an artistic or experimental piece, our motivation for making this film is to expose what is happening in this part of the world — a reality often hidden due to media blackouts and the overwhelming presence of biased propaganda.

Main features and goals of the crowdfunding campaign

  • Give voice to the Palestinian people's resistance, highlighting their daily struggle for freedom.

  • Make the reality of life under occupation visible through the testimonies of those living it.

  • Denounce the repression and limitations imposed by the occupying forces.

  • Challenge hegemonic narratives and misinformation with a human-centered perspective, letting victims tell their own stories.

  • Promote empathy and international solidarity by encouraging reflection and activism in defense of human rights in Palestine.

  • Create impact and mobilization through screenings, social media campaigns, and partnerships with organizations that defend Palestinian rights.

Why this is important

When we think of Palestine, we often imagine bombs, noise, greyness, blood, screams, and tears. We think of the wall. We have countless questions and no answers that can justify so much pain and injustice.
In Palestine, days are often marked by uncertainty, fear, and helplessness. But what we didn’t expect — what we never imagined until we saw it with our own eyes and felt it in our own skin — is that there is also strength and resistance. So much resistance.
We traveled to Palestine and encountered a wall built by Israel to separate, isolate, and exhaust its people — to make them feel alone. But on the other side of that wall, resistance endures. That struggle is embodied by the elderly, the youth, and the children — through music, colors, laughter, songs, walks, games, traditional food, drums, work, flags, and family.
Art, for example, is one of the most powerful tools for transformation, resistance, and expression. A way of saying “enough” without violence. A way of shouting, “We are here. This is who we are.” “These are our streets. These are our children. This is our culture. This is our struggle.” We felt this in every corner, every home, and every street of the occupied territories.
During our time in Palestine, we kept asking, “How can we help? What can we do?” And the answer was always the same — clear, strong, and urgent: “When you go home, please tell people what’s happening here.” That is why raising awareness is our main goal.
